Improving the model
Something we spent time on today was improving the Phoenix hand by using other materials instead of strings. We hypothesized that the string was the reason why the servo motors were not pulling the hand enough- as well as the radius of the servo's rotation.
We replaced string with polyethylene and noticed it was much easier to work with and assemble the hand with. However, when we attached it to the motor, it began to expand, pulling the finger down less and less, as seen in the video.
So, we're experimenting with different materials. Next, we'll try fishing wire and nylon.
